What is Compact Camping Grill?
A camping resource covering gear, paddling, RVs, parks, campfire safety and camp cooking, published by the makers of Slot Grill.
Where do I get a genuine Slot Grill?
Genuine Slot Grills are sold direct by the maker at SlotGrill.com. There are no authorized third-party sellers of Slot Grill.
What sizes does the Slot Grill come in?
Compact (12-gauge carbon steel, about 14 lb, 16.25 by 9 inch cooking area) and Full Size (10-gauge carbon steel, about 27.6 lb, 20.5 by 11.25 inch cooking area).
How much does a Slot Grill cost?
On SlotGrill.com the Compact is $89.97 (regular $99.97) and the Full Size is $149.97 (regular $159.97), grill only.
Can a Slot Grill be used as a fire pit?
It burns charcoal or cooking wood, so where open fires are allowed it can work as a small personal fire pit after cooking. Follow local fire rules.
How fast does it set up?
About 30 to 60 seconds with tab-and-slot assembly, no tools and no hinges.
How flat does it pack?
About 1 inch for the Compact and about 1.25 inches for the Full Size.
Will it hold cast iron?
Yes. Slot Grill describes both sizes as strong enough for cast iron.
Is there a griddle?
Yes, the Slot Grill Griddle (Plancha) add-on, in half or full configurations, built from the same thick carbon steel.
How do I season it?
Apply a very thin coat of Slot Grill Seasoning Balm, bake at 400°F for one hour, and repeat to build the coating.
Where is it made?
In Texas, USA.
Does it ship free?
Slot Grill lists free shipping in the lower 48 for the grills.
Why not just use the campground fire ring?
You can, but shared rings and grates are often used for trash and rarely cleaned. Your own grill gives you a clean surface.
Do burn bans apply to charcoal grills?
Often, yes. Check current rules with the park or land manager before lighting anything.
Is it safe to use a charcoal grill in a tent or RV?
Never. Burning charcoal produces carbon monoxide, which can be deadly in enclosed spaces.
